A calm moment from my post, Our Montessori Schoolroom. |
For awhile now, I've been thinking.
(Dangerous, I know.)
I've been thinking about the photos I see of homeschooling - whether on blogs, or in articles, or on the internet in general.
Sometimes, I see one that perfectly captures our homeschool experience.
More often than not, though, the images I come across are very different from our life at home.
Not that that's a bad thing. We all know that there are as many different versions of homeschooling as there are families who homeschool, and I love seeing how other people do things.
I also love photography. One of my goals for this year is to be more consistent with my hobby - take pictures several times a week, instead of a couple times a month - and get better at it.
For months, these separate thoughts floated around inside my head. Homeschooling, photography. Photography, homeschooling. Finally, inspiration struck. What if lots of families were able to document their homeschooling experience in photos and share them all in one place?
The What Homeschooling Looks Like photo hop was born.
Whether you're homeschooling toddlers, teenagers, anyone in between (or all of the above!), I'm inviting you to share a photo you captured in the past week.
You don't need to be a professional or hobbyist - the point of this hop is to encourage each of us to keep a visual record of our homeschooling experience and share photos of what homeschooling really looks like. Use your smart phone, your DSLR, or any camera you can get your hands on. If you find yourself getting more interested in photography at the same time, great!

The rules are:
1. Choose one photo from the past week that relates to homeschooling.
2. Post your photo on your blog, on Flickr, or another photo hosting site. (I wish there was some way to upload photos to the hop without a middle-man, but there's not.) You're welcome to caption your photo, give a little backstory, or just share the image - I will leave that up to you!
3. Link up with your actual photo or your blog post, not the url of your blog. (Otherwise, no one will be able to find your photo.)
That's all there is to it!
The linky will go live each Tuesday, and stay open until midnight Saturday, EST. Sometimes we will have a theme, others will be open ended. This week - our first! - will be open ended. On Monday, I'll share one of the photos that I especially loved on the blog.
Before you get clicking and linking, here are a few more helpful hints:
Link up early and comment on a few of the other entries. It's a party - you want to chat with the guests! Plus, nice people are awesome.
All photos must be clean and family friendly. Any inappropriate photos will be removed immediately. If your photo offends any of the participants, I will make the final call.
Make sure you hold the copyrights for the photos you post. If you didn't take the photo, don't post it.
Please link others back to What Homeschooling Looks Like, so they can join the fun!
